Child Development and Behavior

Pediatric Behavioral Health in New Jersey

Between the ages of infancy and 21, children undergo drastic changes both physically and emotionally. Some children have a more difficult time adjusting to these changes and others, which can be hard on them and the parents who want to help them. Our Child Development and Behavior Program provides diagnosis, counseling, and treatment for children dealing with developmental disorders. With a medical staff that includes board-certified pediatricians, nurse coordinators, social workers, and child psychologists, we have the expertise you can trust to give your child the dedicated care and attention they need.

What Is a Development/Behavioral Disorder?

Developmental and behavioral disorders come in many forms. Essentially, these conditions make it difficult for children to learn or socialize at the same rate as others their age. These disorders often stick with the child for their entire life and can make school life difficult, which is why many parents seek help from professionals. Our goal is to help children and their families understand the condition and develop strategies that will help them live happy, fulfilling lives.

Common development and behavioral disorders include:

  • Learning disabilities
  • Autism
  • Speech problems
  • Attention deficit disorder (ADD)
  • Dyslexia
  • Tourette syndrome
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Our Unique Approach to Treatment

There is no “cure” for developmental disorders, but they can be treated through counseling and behavioral therapy. We aim to do everything possible to give our patients an advantage in managing these conditions. Our comprehensive program involves:

  • Early intervention for infants up to 3 years old who have a high-risk medical condition that could result in a developmental disorder.
  • Assessment and therapeutic treatments for children between the ages of 2 and 6 with behavioral or emotional difficulties.
  • Follow-ups with the child’s school regarding special services they may require.
  • Education and support groups for parents.
  • Access to all subspecialties the child may need for treatment, including physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Our pediatric services and children’s hospitals are renowned for their high standard of care and ability to speak with children in a medical setting.
