Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Program

The Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) Program treats patients with physical and/or mental defects resulting from maternal alcohol or drug use during pregnancy. Treatment can vary depending on age of diagnosis, however, behavioral and medical interventions are typically used in combination for the treatment of FAS.

Signs and Symptoms

Signs of fetal alcohol syndrome include:

  • At birth, a patient affected by fetal alcohol syndrome may display physical defects such as abnormal facial features and prematurity in body and/or head size.
  • During early childhood development and teenage years, signs include extreme irritability, self-abusive behavior, developmental delays and learning disabilities, and lack of social skills.
