EMT Initial Training

Tuition for our course is $2,500 and is divided into two payments: one $500 non-refundable payment and a $2,000 payment that is due no later than one month before the course begins.

  • Do employees pay full tuition? Yes. Tuition reimbursement may reimburse you for the costs, but this varies by hospital location and job description. Please contact Human Resources to see if you qualify for any assistance.

  • Are there any discounts? No. We charge what is needed to run the course. Those that volunteer on a rescue squad may be eligible to have the $2,000 payment waived. Please see the training fund form page for more information.

There are some costs above tuition that you will acknowledge with a payment agreement at time of application. Here is an outline of all expenditures:

  • Registration Fee

All students, even if using a training fund form, will submit a $500 non-refundable fee at the time of application to secure a seat in the class. This fee is not part of the tuition; however, it will be used to provide the required textbook, access to our online learning management system, uniform shirt, BP Cuff, Stethoscope, Pen Light and Student Bag. If you withdraw from a course before it begins, this fee is non-transferable.

  • Background Check

You will be emailed by a company named Crimcheck during the tuition period. The cost is $30 and will be billed directly to the applicant (if you lived in other states, there may be additional court fees which will also be the responsibility of the applicant). Applicants with a criminal history will not be permitted to take our course. Any money paid to date for the pre-registration fee or tuition will be refunded.

  • Tuition Period

Tuition will be due approximately one month before the start of your class. You will receive an email approximately two months before your class starts that provides directions on how to submit $2,000.00 for course tuition via credit card or cashier’s check.

  • If you currently volunteer with a rescue squad on New Jersey’s eligible agencies list, you will have the option to bring a NJ Training Fund Form (a form completed by your rescue squad that waives the tuition fee for EMT courses) to the first day of class. You MUST verify your agency is on this list by clicking HERE. In the “General Education Section” click on “Agencies Eligible for the EMT Training Fund” for the most up to date information. You will receive a discount code in our acceptance packet that reduces the tuition to $0 if you are paying with this form.

Tuition is refundable at 95% up until 15 business days before a course begins (100%-5% transaction fee). Tuition is refundable at 45% up until 10 business days before a class begins (50%-5% transaction fee) with no refund available after this time. Tuition will not be refunded after the first class for any reason.

  • Uniform Shirts & Supplies

Our EMT students must be in uniform and have supplies beginning on the first day of class. A uniform shirt and student ID is included in the cost of tuition. RWJBarnabas Health will have these materials on the 1st day so that students can ensure a good fit (further instructions will follow as we get closer to the start of the course).

  • Other Considerations

Be aware that these payments will be needed if accepted. Deadlines will not be extended so please be financially prepared to make all payments as outlined.

NOTE: Please be certain your schedule is clear for you to dedicate the time it will take to study (this course is equivalent to the workload of 2 college courses!). RWJBarnabas Health does not offer refunds:

  • Once a course begins
  • Withdrawal or failure to successfully complete the course
  • Family issues or life events
  • Tuition is non-transferrable between courses once they begin
