Women’s Health Services

RWJBarnabas Health is a leader in women's health in our region. From family planning, gynecology and maternity care to breast health and menopause symptom relief, our facilities offer a multitude of women’s programs and services.

We are part of the largest integrated health care system in New Jersey. With centers located throughout the state, our patients have access to advanced treatments, complex surgical procedures and a wide array of health screenings close to home.

Our maternity units and birthing centers offer a range of pregnancy and childbirth services, and are equipped with the latest technology to support healthy births. About 70 babies are born each day at our nine birthing hospitals — that's one every 20 minutes.

Each RWJBarnabas Health hospital offers comprehensive mammography service that can help prevent breast cancer and detect it early, when it is most treatable. We also have three dedicated centers providing world-class breast care in New Jersey.

Award-Winning Care

RWJBarnabas Health’s award-winning medical centers are certified by organizations that accredit and certify health organizations based on quality and performance standards. We consistently receive top ratings for safety, quality and efficiency in hospital performance. Our cancer centers and advanced cardiology treatments are some of the best in the region.

Programs and Services for Women of All Ages

There are several health concerns women deal with that are less common in men. While many hospitals limit their women’s health services to maternity services, gynecology, and breast cancer, we focus our attention on all the of the unique health challenges women commonly face.

View our Women's Health By The Decades Cards to briefly review some simple steps you can take to stay vigilant through every decade of your life.

Women’s Health by the Decades

Our women’s health services include:

  • Breast Care. Breast cancer is still a leading health concern for women in the United States. We utilize advanced imaging technology and screening procedures to catch breast cancer in the early stages to ensure treatment has the best chance of success.
  • Gynecologic Oncology. If your gynecologist finds uterine fibroids, cysts, or vaginal infections, these could be warning signs of gynecologic cancer. These cancers are almost impossible to detect without regular screenings, but they can be prevented if caught early. If you have been diagnosed with cancer, our multidisciplinary team of medical professionals work collaboratively with patients to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Heart Health. Many people believe that heart disease is more prevalent in men than women, but according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), roughly the same number of men and women die of heart disease each year, and heart disease kills more women in the U.S. each year than breast cancer. We help our patients fight heart disease with preventive care education.
  • Infertility Treatment. Board-certified reproductive endocrinologists and fertility specialists work with couples to assess what may be preventing them from conceiving a child. We provide fertility treatment options that offer our patients the best chance of success.
  • Maternity. We are honored when patients choose us as their health care provider in the exciting journey of childbirth. Our maternity staff guides women through pregnancy and provides education on the basics of infant care.
  • Midwifery. Expectant mothers may choose to work with dedicated nurse-midwives who take a holistic approach to pregnancy health and childbirth. Several of our facilities offer trusted, knowledgeable midwifery programs for our patients and families who are expecting a child.
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN). Our gynecology departments provide women with regular health screenings to check for cysts and other warning signs of cancer. We also provide maternity services, infertility services, and comprehensive treatments for gynecological disorders such as abnormal periods and pelvic pain.
  • Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is an orthopedic disease that weakens the bones, making it easier for you to fracture or break something. This condition is most commonly found in women. At our facilities, we offer some of the most sophisticated orthopedic treatments available.
  • Robotic Surgery. Advancements in medical technology now allow our surgeons to perform gynecological procedures with state-of-the-art robotic surgical systems. In robotic surgery, surgeons guide extremely precise and responsive robotic arms to perform operations. This allows our team to perform surgery with fewer incisions, resulting in less pain and shorter recovery periods for the patient.
