Travel Medicine Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during my travel visit?

Our travel consultations are generally 45 minutes long and provide valuable insights into the destinations you plan to visit.

Our Travel Medicine Specialists will cover health advice (sourced from the CDC) along with any medical or vaccination prerequisites pertinent to the countries on your travel plans.

When should I schedule my Travel Health appointment?

To ensure comprehensive protection from travel vaccinations, it's advisable to schedule your appointment at least three weeks before your departure, as this timeframe allows the vaccines to become fully effective. However, even if your travel plans are imminent, it's still worth visiting our travel clinics. This allows adequate time for:

  • Multi-dose vaccines
  • Immunity development
  • Prescription medications

*** We are committed to assisting travelers with last-minute needs to the best of our ability.

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an appointment, call (609) 631-6830 or email Corporatecarehamilton@rwjbh.org

What should I bring to my Travel Health appointment?

  • Please bring any existing medical records, such as your vaccination records, travel itinerary (countries, dates, activities), current medication list

What happens during a Travel Medicine consultation?

During your visit, our provider will:

  • Review your travel itinerary and destinations
  • Assess your medical history and current medications
  • Recommend required and optional vaccines
  • Prescribe preventive medications (if indicated)

Will I be charged if no vaccines are given?

Yes. The Travel Medicine consultation itself is a billable service, even if no vaccines or medications are administered. The consultation includes medical review, risk assessment, and travel health counseling.

Can prescriptions be provided without a visit?

No. Prescriptions for travel-related medications (such as malaria prevention) require a completed Travel Medicine consultation with one of our providers.

How much does a travel clinic appointment cost?

We offer comprehensive travel health services; we focus on specialized travel vaccinations and guidance. Our team is equipped to furnish you with all the necessary travel health information, immunizations, and supplies for your journey. Due to the unique nature of each trip, providing a fixed price for a visit is challenging. Costs can fluctuate depending on factors such as the required vaccines. To determine the potential cost for your specific travel needs, please reach out by calling (609) 631-6830 or emailing our office Corporatecarehamilton@rwjbh.org

Are children able to be seen at the Travel Clinic?

We are currently only seeing patients that are 18 years and older
