Meet Our Geriatric Care Team

At RWJBarnabas Health, we standardize best-care pathways and other hospital and ambulatory initiatives to improve elder care throughout our hospitals and facilities. Our geriatric medicine collaborative, which establishes and institutionalizes these geriatric care best practices, is made up of elder care practitioners including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners and pharmacists.

The geriatric medicine collaborative at RWJBarnabas Health is under the direction of Theresa Redling, DO, FACP.

RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group - Geriatricians

RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group geriatric specialists provide support and guidance to help patients age well and continue to live their lives to the fullest. Our board-certified fellowship-trained geriatricians treat common medical conditions among the elderly, including hypertension (high blood pressure), memory disorders, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart conditions, arthritis, and emphysema, among many others. Our physicians also assist aging patients in safely managing their medications as well as providing thorough assessments for geriatric syndromes including falls.

Geriatricians are uniquely suited to address all aspects of an older adult’s health and can streamline their medical care needs if they are admitted to any of our hospitals. This includes, but is not limited to providing intensive medical management, maintaining the patient’s physical/emotional/cognitive function, addressing decision making and advance directives, and implementing a discharge plan while collaborating with the patient’s caregivers.

Additionally, our providers can address the needs of older adults who are referred to us for geriatric assessments. Our board-certified geriatricians and nurse practitioners offer a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach collaborating with registered nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists, and other medical specialists. Referral to social services experts is available upon request.
