Advanced Radiation Oncology Care
Radiation therapy is still a critical part of many cancer patients' course
of treatment as they fight their disease. Our radiation oncologists provide
patients with state-of-the-art radiation therapies that can slow and stop
the development of cancerous and benign tumors.
What Is Radiation Oncology?
Radiation of oncology is a branch of oncology-focused on treating tumors with radiation therapy. This form of therapy uses carefully placed radiation—such as gamma rays or x-rays—to damage the DNA in cancer cells. Damaging the DNA in this way stops the cells from multiplying and can halt the further growth of tumors.
At RWJBarnabas Health, our oncology facilities offer:
- High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR)
- CyberKnife ®
- Gamma Knife ™ Radiosurgery
- Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
- Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
- Proton Beam Therapy (and Pencil Proton Beam Therapy)
- Radioembolization or Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT)

- Stereotactic Radiation Surgery (SRS)
- Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT)

Radiation therapy is sometimes used on its own to destroy tumors and keep them from reoccurring-- but often it is used in conjunction with other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and surgery. Radiation therapy also produces side effects, and our team is ready to assist patients to minimize and alleviate those symptoms.
Our oncologists and specialists understand the value of providing every patient with a personalized plan of care. Our dedicated oncologists use the latest, innovate technologies to assess the health of our patients and work closely with them to determine the best course of treatment.
