Solutions for Every Type of Gynecologic Cancer Throughout New Jersey

Research and new innovations in treating gynecologic cancers gives women more options than ever for customized, effective treatment.

Our NJ cancer hospitals have one of the highest volumes of gynecologic oncologists and gynecologic surgeons in the Northeast, which ensures you receive competent care from experienced professionals who embrace past, present and future treatment options. Our physicians are experts in decoding abnormal Pap smears as well as pre-invasive disease of the cervix, vagina and vulva. Consultations for hereditary gynecologic cancer syndromes are also available.

Your oncology team, which can include a gynecologic oncologist, can explain everything you need to know about all of the treatments that can turn cancer patients into cancer survivors.

Some of these options include chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy such as brachytherapy, immunotherapy, or clinical trials. Talk to your oncologists about treatment options. Together, you can devise a customized care plan that prioritizes your total health and wellbeing.

  • Surgery: Surgery can be a viable, successful option for certain types of gynecologic cancers. We are pleased to offer robotic and minimally invasive surgical options, in addition to expertise in everything from staging surgery to total hysterectomy. Because we evaluate each patient on a one-on-one basis, your treatment will vary and that includes whether or not you are a good surgical candidate.
  • Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy and its ability to treat your type of gynecological cancer, is a treatment plan that your oncologists must determine. This treatment uses medicines administered via an intravenous needle system to kill cancer cells, though some drugs can be taken orally. For example, it’s one of the main ways to treat ovarian cancer. Patients who undergo chemo are supervised by a gynecologic oncologist or medical oncologist, which specialize in female cancers. The treatment can involve more than one medicine, and your oncologist will explain which medicine(s) he or she recommends.
  • Radiation Therapy: There are several types of radiation therapy technologies and modalities used to treat gynecologic cancers. Because the cancers can vary, the treatments do as well. Radiation therapy uses beams of intense energy to destroy cancer cells. Radiation therapy most often gets its power from x-rays, but the power may also come from protons or other types of energy. It is one of the most common cancer treatments, and can be used in combination with other types of therapies or on its own. For example, brachytherapy is one of the radiation therapy options we offer that is used to treat types of gynecologic cancers such as endometrial, cervical and vaginal cancer.

Once you have met and discussed the available treatment options with your cancer team, we can help you determine which course of treatment is best for you.
