Outpatient Rehabilitation Technology Clinic

The Rehabilitation Technology Program uses a team approach, to conduct a detailed evaluation of theyoung man in wheelchair patient with regards to seating, positioning and mobility needs. The team consists of the evaluating therapist, child, family and in-network Durable Medical Equipment Supplier. The specialists in the Rehabilitation Technology Department work with patients currently using or in need of specialized equipment to enhance their strengths and abilities. By creating highly tailored specialized equipment, patients are able to participate to the best of their ability in family, school, community, employment and recreation activities.

Types of equipment that are recommended include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manual wheelchairs
  • Power wheelchairs
  • Custom molded seating systems
  • Supportive standers
  • Adaptive toileting and bath equipment
  • Adaptive strollers
  • Gait trainers

The team also works closely with the family and their insurance to secure coverage of cost of this high-tech, custom made equipment.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Technology

At Children's Specialized Hospital's New Brunswick inpatient facility, our rehabilitation technology department makes sure our patients are able to navigate their environment with customized equipment for their entire inpatient stay. The team works closely with the child's medical, nursing and therapy staff to find, modify, and/or create appropriate equipment to help our patients with better function and to get moving.
