When every second counts, the Emergency Department (ED) at Clara Maass Medical Center is ready to care for you. Our emergency room in Belleville, New Jersey, provides rapid evaluation and treatment for children, adults and older adults. Board-certified emergency medicine doctors, nurses and specialists work together to care for a wide range of illnesses and injuries.
Clara Maass Medical Center is an acute care hospital serving Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Bergen counties. Our emergency department has more than 79,000 visits each year.
Rapid Assessment and Testing
Our ED patients experience a median wait time of approximately 14 minutes to be seen by a provider. Patients are assessed as quickly as possible based on their symptoms and level of need. The emergency department offers 24/7 laboratory testing, digital imaging, X-rays and other diagnostic services. These tools help the care team make timely treatment decisions.

Psychiatric Emergency and Crisis Support
Patients experiencing a mental health crisis can receive immediate help through Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services. We care for children, adults and seniors and connect patients with the Department of Behavioral Health and Psychiatry for continued support.
Coordinated Emergency Care
Emergency medicine providers work closely with hospital specialists and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS). When EMS contacts the hospital from the field, our team can prepare the right resources before the ambulance arrives.
