U.S. News & World ReportRobert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Diabetes Center provides an individualized program for self-management of diabetes, as well as educational services for outpatients and their families. The center’s goal is to provide people with diabetes the opportunity to live as normal and as full a life as possible.

The center, established in 1996, continues to maintain the Certificate of Recognition from the American Diabetes Association for meeting national standards for quality diabetes self-management education.

The Diabetes Center offers:

  • One-on-one educational counseling
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Continuous glucose monitoring
  • Meal planning and nutritional counseling
  • Information on preventing complications
  • Fitness guidance
  • Insulin pump guidance
  • Family support
  • A gestational program for those with diabetes only during pregnancy

Our educational sessions can include:

  • Diabetes overview
  • Nutrition (includes meal planning and carbohydrate counting)
  • Fitness guidelines
  • Stress and weight management
  • Medications
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Continuous glucose monitoring
  • Foot care

Our Staff

Directed by a board certified endocrinologist, the staff includes an advanced practice nurse and registered dietitians who are certified diabetes care and education specialists.
