El Poder Sobre La Diabetes Program

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s El Poder Sobre La Diabetes Program helps members of the Latino community to prevent or delay diabetes.

Diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death for Hispanics in the United States and El Poder assists individuals in making lifestyle changes that will reduce at least one of the risk factors for diabetes. Coordinated by our Community Health Department, the 90-minute education sessions are held weekly for 12 weeks and are conducted in Spanish. Classes include blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose screenings; weight management; nutrition and diabetes education with a registered dietitian. The sessions are held in convenient locations such as churches and community centers. For more information about the El Poder program, contact Karolina Georgens at 908-203-6239.
