Nutrition Counseling

Your physician may refer you to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway’s Nutrition Counseling Program for Medical Nutrition Therapy to address the following concerns:

  • Basic Nutrition
  • Cancer Nutrition Therapy
  • Celiac Disease
  • Eating Disorders
  • Food Allergies
  • Gastrointestinal Disorders
  • Heart Disease
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Hypertension
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Pregnancy
  • Renal Failure
  • Weight loss, Weight Gain, Weight Management

Consultations Include:

  • Evaluation of diet history and lifestyle
  • Development of an individualized care plan
  • Educational materials
  • Discussion of behavior modification techniques, including guidelines for shopping, preparation and dining out
  • Written summary of the counseling session provided to the physician, for referral and inclusion in the client’s medical record

How to Register

  1. A written prescription from the physician or Nutrition Counseling Referral Form is required. This should include the diet order, diagnosis, pertinent lab values and medications.
  2. Contact the Nutrition Department 732. 499.6210 to schedule an appointment. Early morning appointments are available.

Fees are based on an hourly rate and must be paid at the time of instruction. Diet counseling services are available by appointment only

Note: Follow-up visits with our Registered Dieticians are encouraged in order to achieve long-term success.

The RWJ Rahway Nutrition Counseling and Education Service offers individual counseling and group classes which deal with a variety of nutrition-related health concerns. Registered Dietitians (RD) provide all services.
