Screening

doctor helping female patientThe American Cancer Society recommends that all women over the age of 40 have regular breast exams and mammograms. The frequency and specific age of these screenings depends on risk factors for breast cancer, such as personal and family medical history.

Screening may include:

  • The documentation of your personal and family medical history
  • A physical examination
  • Radiological studies, such as mammography and breast ultrasonography
  • Genetic testing

Diagnosis

Most women who undergo screening will be healthy and not have to use any of our other services. If, however, your diagnostic screening finds something suspicious, we stand ready to help you. This will involve meeting with one or more specialists from our team.

Breast Navigator

High-Risk Patients

If you are at higher risk for developing breast cancer, we maintain a registry for identification, monitoring and followup. You are considered high risk if you have one or more close relatives with pre-menopausal breast cancer, two or more close relatives with post-menopausal breast cancer, or other conditions such as cystic disease.

Second Opinion Program

If you are at high risk for breast disease or have been diagnosed with breast cancer, the Second Opinion Program offers you access to our compassionate, multidisciplinary team of breast specialists, who make evaluations and provide treatment recommendations.
