The Center for Sleep Disorders offers a full range of services used in the evaluation, diagnosis and management of many sleep-related disorders in children. The center is equipped with the latest in monitoring equipment, providing the opportunity for full overnight sleep studies, as well as daytime testing. a physician referral is required.

Children are very special patients at the Saint Barnabas Surgery Centers. A cheerful and relaxed environment has been created to male children feel more at home. The Department of Surgery provides children and their families with concerned and compassionate care in a complete range of services.

Pediatric Emergency Care Center: 973-322-5180

Of the almost 90,000 patients treated in the Emergency Department teach year, nearly 25,000 are children. While emergency departments always treat children, only a few in the region have developed specialized areas just for kids with physicians who are all specialists in pediatric emergency medicine. Saint Barnabas Medical Center has taken a true leadership role in addressing the special emergency care needs of children by providing specialized medical staff in a convenient, child-oriented environment specially designed and equipped for medical emergencies, minor illnesses and pediatric trauma. The Pediatric Suite contains nine private patient rooms, including one equipped as a pediatric critical care room. To comfortably accommodate patients and their families, the suite's reception area has a play facility for young patients and their siblings. A dedicated nurses' station supports the suite's activities.

Nutritional Counseling Services: 973-322-5664

Nutritional counseling services are available for patients of all ages by appointment on an outpatient basis. A written prescription is required. Personalized eating plans are developed to address various medical conditions. Individualized plans to develop a healthy lifestyle or to lose weight are also available.

Pediatric Health Center: 973-322-5400

The Pediatric Health Center provides preventative, sick care and pre-operative medical clearance for children up to 21 years of age. The Center, staffed by board-certified pediatricians and nursing, social work, and nutrition professionals, offers physicals, immunizations, social service support, nutrition and diet counseling, developmental guidance, child safety education, assistance with family dynamics, infant care education and breastfeeding support. Radiology and laboratory services are available. EKG, EEG, echocardiogram, ultrasound, MRI, physical therapy and speech and hearing therapy are also provided. WIC (Women/Infants/Children) referrals are accepted. The Center is located on the ground floor of the East Wing.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: 973-322-8803

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical and surgical care. The unit is staffed by full-time pediatric critical care physicians and nurses, each certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Accommodations are made for one parent to remain with the child overnight.

A step-down unit for children who do not need the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, but require close observation and monitoring, is available within the Pediatric Unit. A wide range of pediatric sub-specialists are available as needed for consultation. Pediatric Otolaryngology

Our Pediatric Otolaryngology Program provides the state’s most comprehensive and advanced pediatric otolaryngology services. Our team of pediatric otolaryngologists treats children with disorders involving the ears, nose, and throat with the latest medical guidelines and the most advanced surgical procedures.

Radiology Department: 973-322-5800

The Department of Radiology provides a full spectrum of state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services on an inpatient, outpatient and emergency basis. These services include Diagnostic Radiology, Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, CAT Scan and MRI. The complete array of ultrasound services are also available in the Ultrasound Section that is accredited in Sonography by the American College of Radiology.

Regional Perinatal Center 973-322-5300

As a state-designated Level III Regional Perinatal Center, the highest designation in the state, Saint Barnabas provides a full range of perinatal services. Two key subspecialists are perinatologists, specializing in any complicated maternal fetal problems and neonatologists who provide intensive care to critically ill newborns. Saint Barnabas provides a 24-hour, round-the-clock, high-risk infant transport service in which critically ill newborns are transported to Saint Barnabas from other area hospitals that may not be equipped to manage certain infant crises. Nearly 1,500 critically ill babies are cared for in the NICU annually.

Respiratory Care Department: 973-322-5085

Respiratory care is an adjunct therapy which provides therapeutic intervention by licensed respiratory therapists to patients with cardiopulmonary disease, such as asthma, bronchitis and patients requiring mechanical ventilation.

    Performs specialized testing for children with breathing and respiratory disorders, including pulmonary function testing from infancy through adolescence and flexible bronchoscopy.

Therapy Department

Children are not just small adults. They require a child-oriented program and therapists who are specialists in pediatric health care needs. Pediatric physical and occupational therapists at Saint Barnabas work as a multidisciplinary team using neurodevelopmental and sensory integrative treatment approaches in a cheerful, child-centered environment. Our therapists specialize in the evaluation and treat of a full spectrum of developmental, neuromuscular and orthopedic problems. A wide variety of therapeutic play activities are available to help children of all ages, from infancy to adolescent, function to the best of their abilities.

    Uses therapeutic, purposeful activities to improve functional status. Focus of therapy can include fine motor control, cognitive and visual-perceptual therapy, splinting, hand therapy, work hardening and activities of daily living.

    Focuses on improving functional activities involving gross body movements. This may include rehabilitating sports or other injuries, gait and transfer training, muscle strengthening, flexibility, endurance training and pain management.
