The Department of Pediatrics at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center) provides exceptional medical care and the best possible hospital experience for children and their families. In all areas of inpatient and outpatient pediatric services, we care for your children as if they were our own.

We offer the expertise of a specialized team of physicians, including neonatologists, pediatric critical care physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, Child Life coordinators, social workers and all other health care professionals dedicated to the well-being of the patients we serve.

The Pediatrics department offers virtually every major pediatric subspecialty service ranging from allergy and cardiology to pulmonology and infectious diseases, as well as surgical specialty areas from craniofacial and orthopedic surgery to neurosurgery and plastic surgery. The attending staff includes more than 250 pediatric practitioners, and an integrated residency program with the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

McMullen Children’s Center: A Hospital Within a Hospital, Just for Kids

McMullen Children’s Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center is designed to meet the medical and emotional needs of young patients. Pediatric inpatient services, including a 10-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, are centralized within one area of the Medical Center. The Children’s Center offers the latest technologies, child-friendly patient rooms and playroom, family-friendly lounges and lobbies, a parent overnight room and sibling play areas.

Neonatology service is provided in one of the largest and most acute newborn nurseries in New Jersey. Our Shyan Sun, M.D. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is designed to care for critically ill and high-risk newborns. Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center is a Level III Regional Perinatal Center, the highest designation possible in New Jersey.

The Division of Pediatric Nephrology and Transplantation works closely with Cooperman Barnabas’ pediatric urologists. As the most experienced Pediatric Renal Transplant Program in New Jersey, the Division provides state-of-the-art medical care, including advanced diagnostic assessment and testing, and sensitive support for the family and child.

The Cooperman Barnabas Pediatric Specialty Center, located at the RWJBarnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center offers a wealth of outstanding pediatric specialties, advanced technologies and a full scope of programs and services in an outpatient setting, including: allergy and immunology, behavior development, endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology, genetics, infectious disease/travel and adoption medicine, neurology, psychiatry, pulmonology and sleep medicine, rheumatology and Lyme disease, surgery and weight management.
