Resident Life at Monmouth Medical Center

Residency is demanding, but life at Monmouth Medical Center offers plenty of opportunities to learn, connect, recharge, and enjoy everything the New Jersey Shore has to offer. From a supportive resident community and wellness activities to living just minutes from the beach, our residents enjoy a unique balance of rigorous training and quality of life.

A Day in the Life

No two days are exactly alike, and schedules vary by rotation. A typical day may include sign-out, rounds, patient care, admissions, teaching, and collaboration with attending physicians and multidisciplinary teams.

Education and teamwork are central to our program. Residents participate in interactive teaching sessions, including Morning Report, where cases are discussed in a collaborative environment that encourages clinical reasoning, shared learning, and participation across all levels of training.

Residents also receive complimentary meals in the hospital cafeteria and a $200 monthly meal allowance, providing convenient dining options throughout the workday.

Resident Workspaces

Dedicated resident workrooms provide comfortable spaces for residents to complete documentation, collaborate with colleagues, study, and recharge during busy clinical days.

Residents have access to amenities including comfortable seating and a massage chair. Dedicated sleep rooms are also available for residents working overnight.

For added convenience, residents have 24/7 access to a complimentary mini market stocked with snacks and beverages, making it easy to grab something during a busy day or overnight shift.

Wellness Fridays

Resident wellness is an important part of our program culture. Each month, residents participate in Wellness Friday, an opportunity to step away from the clinical routine, connect with colleagues, and recharge.

Activities vary throughout the year and may include painting, games, group outings, friendly competitions, and other resident-led activities. These experiences provide an opportunity for residents across all training levels to build relationships and enjoy time together outside of patient care.

Life by the Beach

One of the most distinctive aspects of training at Monmouth Medical Center is our location along the New Jersey Shore. The hospital is just minutes from the ocean, and many residents choose to live in nearby shore communities.

Whether it is taking a walk along the boardwalk, enjoying the beach, meeting friends for dinner, or simply unwinding by the water after a long day, residents have easy access to one of New Jersey’s most popular coastal destinations.

From the Shore to the City

Monmouth Medical Center offers residents the opportunity to enjoy coastal living while remaining within easy reach of New York City.

The Long Branch train station is approximately a five-minute drive from the hospital and offers direct NJ Transit service to New York Penn Station. Residents can spend their free time enjoying the restaurants, entertainment, arts, and cultural attractions of New York City while returning home to the relaxed atmosphere of the New Jersey Shore.

More Than a Residency

What truly distinguishes Monmouth Medical Center is our sense of community. Residency is challenging, and having a supportive group of colleagues makes a meaningful difference.

Through shared clinical experiences, educational activities, wellness events, and time spent together outside the hospital, residents develop relationships that extend beyond their years of training.

At Monmouth, residents are not only developing into skilled, compassionate pediatricians, but also becoming part of a close-knit community, building friendships and creating memories that extend well beyond residency.
