All medical residents at Monmouth Medical Center are entitled to benefit and insurance programs.


  • Monmouth Medical Center runs on an every-other-week payroll schedule. Approximate salaries by PGY level are as follows:

PGY-1 = $ 68,271
PGY-2 = $ 70,988
PGY-3 = $ 74,981

Health and Dental Benefits

  • RWJBarnabas Health provides comprehensive coverage, including doctor's office visits, laboratory tests, hospitalization, dental, prenatal, and well-baby care, vision care, immunizations, diagnostic tests, and preventive and wellness care. Services are provided by your primary care physician and other preferred providers almost entirely, without requiring referral forms.
  • RWJBarnabas Health offers two types of dental plans, which provide employees and eligible dependents with coverage for preventive, basic, and major dental services.
  • RWJBarnabas Health offers EyeMed vision insurance which provides employees and eligible dependents coverage for annual eye exams and corrective glasses.

Paid Time Off

  • Residents are scheduled for four weeks of vacation. In addition, residents may also be scheduled for as many as eight holidays.

Housing and Moving Expenses

  • Monmouth Medical Center does not provide free housing for medical residents. Affordable housing is easy to find in the city of Long Branch.
  • Monmouth Medical Center does not provide moving expenses.

Insurance Coverage

  • Residents are covered for professional liability and are given access to additional life and/or disability insurance.

Counseling and Support Services

  • Monmouth Medical Center offers confidential psychiatric counseling, psychological support services, and personal and career counseling.
  • Residents and immediate family members can also seek counsel through the hospital's employee assistance program.
  • Online BHealthy Portal offers healthy eating recommendations, mindfulness, meditation, and stress reduction education.
  • The Medical Society of New Jersey extends its full range of services, including drug and alcohol evaluation and litigation stress support group. These programs are offered at no charge to resident physicians in the state of NJ.

Institutional Medical Research Fund

Monmouth Medical Center offers eligible research proposals a grant to be spent towards research-related expenses. The hospital also reimburses travel and lodging expenses for national conferences.
