The Epilepsy Center

Expert Seizure Disorder Diagnosis and Management

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that causes abnormal brain activity, resulting in unusual behavior, loss of awareness, and seizures. Anyone, child or adult, can be affected, and symptoms can vary wildly.

Using the latest technology for epilepsy monitoring, non-invasive methods of precisely identifying seizure activity, and a multidisciplinary team approach, our epilepsy programs offer patients with difficult-to-manage epilepsy more options for treatment, management and support.

The neurologists and neurosurgeons at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital are among New Jersey's most experienced epilepsy and seizure specialists. With dual roles as physicians and faculty at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America, our doctors are involved in research and in teaching about all aspects of epilepsy and other neuromuscular conditions.

Our multidisciplinary care team includes experts from neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology, neuroradiology, pharmacology, psychiatry, and neuropathology. Nurse practitioners and research coordinators are integral to our practice as well.

As a Level 4 Epilepsy Center, We Provide the Highest Level of Epilepsy Care

The Pediatric Epilepsy Program has been accredited as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. This means that our experts provide the highest level of medical and surgical care and support for children with epilepsy.

While in the hospital, patients are continuously monitored with electroencephalograms (EEGs) and video recordings. Our neurologists evaluate patients daily and their EEG studies are interpreted by pediatric epileptologists.

Our certified and experienced team members are pleased to offer second opinions when requested.
