Down Syndrome Training
Children's Specialized Hospital
Down Syndrome Center of Excellence
Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Center of Excellence for Down Syndrome offers professional, patient, and community training. We provide support, tools, and resources.
Professional Training
Dr. Noemi Spinazzi and the Down Syndrome Center of Excellence team are available to speak on various topics related to Down syndrome, including Grand Rounds lectures and in-service trainings for your team or department. Additionally, our Center of Excellence supports medical education by inviting pediatricians in training to join some of the visits, so that our future generation of clinicians is up to date on the evidence-based care recommendations for individuals with Down syndrome. We collaborate with the NJ LEND program, a federally funded interdisciplinary training initiative that prepares healthcare leaders, advocates and policymakers to support individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Additionally, we are available to connect with prenatal clinicians, including OB/GYN providers, to discuss best practices for discussing a Down syndrome diagnosis with families before or after delivery.
Patient/Family Support
Dr. Noemi Spinazzi loves to educate families on various topics related to raising a child with Down syndrome, including:
- Supporting positive behavior
- Special education basics
- Toilet training
- Puberty
- Nutrition and physical activity for weight management
- Vaccine safety
Education can happen through conversations during a visit, as well as through talks that can be organized by your local Down syndrome organization.
