Ophthalmologic Surgery

Comprehensive Treatments for Eye Disorders

Our ophthalmology team is committed to providing safe, high quality eye care. Many people become very nervous at the thought of receiving eye surgery, but in truth, these procedures are very safe and simple. We pride ourselves in providing comprehensive treatments for eye conditions, including glaucoma, lazy eye, cataracts, pediatric eye disorders, and more.

We are also the first and only medical system in the state to offer Trabectome, one of the leading treatments for glaucoma.

What You Should Know About Eye Surgery

Recoiling and protecting the eyes from objects is instinctive, which makes eye surgery a difficult procedure for many people. While any surgery carries some risks, eye surgeries are some of the safest procedures available and the benefits far outweigh the minimal risks.

Preparation and recovery from ophthalmologic surgery are also relatively simple. Many procedures require patients to stop taking aspirin for up to 10 days before the procedure. You may also need to stop wearing contacts for a brief period and avoid using makeup or lotions on the face. If your procedure requires the use of anesthesia, you will also need to fast for several hours before the surgery.

The Recovery Phase

Recovering from eye surgery typically requires a 24 hour rest period. Your doctor may prescribe some medications to help with pain relief, but in many cases the discomfort is minimal. It is possible that you will need to keep the eye covered for several days, so prepare to have reduced vision for a time.

If you have any questions about an upcoming procedure, our ophthalmology staff will be happy to answer your questions!
