Administrative Fellowship Program

The Administrative Fellowship at Jersey City Medical Center, a RWJBarnabas Health hospital, is a one-year, post-graduate experience that offers early careerists the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to hospital administration within a large, integrated health system.

As part of the broader RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group Administrative Fellowship initiative, the JCMC program provides a hospital-based experience focused on clinical operations, strategic planning, and executive leadership development. One fellow is selected annually to rotate through departments across the hospital, working directly with senior leadership to lead high-impact projects aligned with the medical center’s goals.

Located on a 15-acre campus overlooking the New York Harbor and Liberty State Park, Jersey City Medical Center is a 352-bed Level II Trauma Center and a regional teaching hospital. It provides advanced care in trauma, women’s and children’s services, and cardiac health. This rotational, project-oriented fellowship develops a strong foundation in key administrative areas while allowing the fellow to build meaningful relationships with mentors, observe high-level decision-making, and contribute to initiatives that impact patient care and hospital performance.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be in their final year of an accredited graduate program, with relevant coursework in healthcare administration (e.g., MHA, MPH, MPA, or healthcare-focused MBA or equivalent) with a graduation date no later than May 2027.

  • Applicants must be US citizens or have valid documentation confirming their legal right to work in the U.S. (H-1B visa sponsorship is not provided).

Fellowship Structure

The Fellowship is a structured one-year program comprised of clinical and operational rotations. The program begins on Tuesday, June 1, 2027. During the year, the Fellow is exposed to various aspects of hospital administration.

During each rotation, the Fellow receives an overview of the department’s operations, challenges, and initiatives. The Fellow has the opportunity to work with that department on projects that are aligned with their interests and develop core competencies.

Interacting with the Senior Leadership team overseeing specific areas including operations, human resources, marketing and public relations, patient care services and nursing, finance and physicians’ services is an active part of the Fellowship. Hospital Directors serve as mentors for the Fellows, providing professional development and the opportunity to observe high-level strategic meetings.
