Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center wants to encourage and support you with breastfeeding your child. Prior to your delivery, Breastfeeding Basics is a workshop designed to help mothers achieve the confidence and skills necessary for a satisfying nursing experience.

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Supports Your Breastfeeding Needs

When you deliver, you can take comfort in knowing that all of the nurses on the mother/baby units are specially trained lactation specialists with years of experience. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your nurse for assistance while you are in the hospital. A daily breastfeeding education class is also led by a certified lactation consultant (an announcement will be made regarding time and location).

*The Women’s Health Education Office provides instruction on using and caring for breast pump equipment. In addition, they have breast pump and accessories available to rent and for sale. For more information, please call 973-322-5360 or visit their office off the lobby of the third floor of the main hospital. They are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Affordable Care Act requires most health insurance plans to cover breastfeeding services and supplies. That means you could receive a high-quality, name brand pump at no cost to you. To learn more and for assistance visit the Acelleron website at ordermypump.com.

Help Once You Are Home

If you are having difficulty with breastfeeding once you have left the hospital, you can call the Cooperman Barnabas Warm Line (973-322-5684). The Warm Line is a dedicated phone line that is monitored by certified lactation consultants. It is designed for non-emergent breastfeeding questions that can be answered during regular business hours. If you have a question, day or night, call the Warm Line and leave a confidential message and phone number. A lactation consultant will return your call during the next business day. If you have an emergent breastfeeding question, please contact your child’s pediatrician. If you would like to meet with a lactation consultant once you are home, you can contact NewBornMom Breastfeeding Solutions.

NewBornMom Breastfeeding Solutions has provided help to moms and babies for over 20 years. Through private, one-to-one consultation, an IBCLC-certified lactation consultant can help prevent problems and provide new moms with the breastfeeding experience they envision.
