Clinical Obligation

The students are assigned four to five weeks per clinical rotation at one of our five clinical facilities. The students are expected to be in the classroom two days a week, starting the week after the orientation week until the end of June, and in the clinical three days a week. In the summer months, once the students are done with all of their didactic material, they will be in the clinical environment five days a week. The students may have occasional extra time in the clinical depending on the didactic schedule. This is done to enhance students’ clinical learning and provide them with opportunities to practice their competencies.

The students are expected to be in the clinical between the hours of 7:00am-3:00pm or 8:00am-4:00pm under the discretion of the clinical supervisor. The students are expected to attend all clinical and didactic days as scheduled. The students will be given 40 hours of time off and will be allowed to use it as necessary through the year. While the students are in clinical, they are expected to wear school uniform and must be ready to start their day at the designated time. The students will also have to follow the hospital and the school guidelines while in clinic.

All students are required to perform all of the clinical procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed radiation therapist. There are no exceptions. All the clinical supervisors and the licensed radiation therapists at all of the clinical facilities are made aware of this expectation on annual basis.

All students will have a mid-rotation and end of rotation evaluation. The students MUST have a minimum clinical grade of 3.0 and must complete ALL ARRT required clinical competency to be awarded a graduation certification.

The students MUST be available for periodic weekend workshops. If the students are expected to come for a weekend workshop, they will be told well in advance so that they are able to schedule it appropriately.
