Joint Replacement Surgery
Comprehensive joint replacement services
Joint replacement is a common procedure for patients with chronic joint pains and severe injuries. Many people encounter joint pains as a natural part of the aging process. These pains can usually be treated with non-invasive treatments for a time, but eventually the damage can become so extensive that surgical intervention becomes necessary for relieving pain.
Our board-certified orthopedic surgeons offer comprehensive joint replacement surgery services. We guide patients through every stage of their treatment, from preoperative preparation to at-home recovery. We have invested in state-of-the-art robotic surgical systems that allow us to offer safer, less-invasive joint surgeries.
Preparation and recovery
Joint surgery alone will not be enough to completely remedy joint pains. You need help your body prepare and adjust to your joint replacement with physical therapy and lifestyle changes.
Your joint surgery plan of care may involve:
- Exercise – Your surgeon may instruct you on some exercises you can perform before your surgery to help your body prepare. After the surgery, a physical therapist can teach you new exercises to hasten your recovery.
- Medication – If your orthopedist has recommended joint surgery, it likely means that medication is no longer producing the pain relief you need. After your surgery, however, pain medication can help you during post-operative recovery. You should only take medications that have been approved by your orthopedist.
- Rehabilitation – Joint surgery is not an immediate fix for joint problems. The surgery itself will take a toll on your body, and it may take awhile to get used to your joint implant. Many patients undergo physical and/or occupational therapy after joint surgery, working one-one-one with a rehab therapist to create a customized recovery plan that includes exercise, diet building and more.
- Discharge planning – We want to ensure our patients are fully prepared to recover at home after their operation. We provide thorough instructions on how to care for your surgical wound, what medications you should be taking (if any), and activities to avoid while you are in recovery. It is strongly recommended that you have someone stay with you for at least 24 hours after your surgery to help you around the house.
We believe patient education leads to better surgical outcomes. Undergoing joint replacement surgery may seem like an overwhelming experience, but our dedicated professionals will be by your side every step of the way. We’re part of your recovery team from beginning to end.
