LGBTQIA Program

Health Care for the New Jersey LGBTQIA Community

At Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital New Brunswick, we are dedicated to meeting the diverse health care needs of our community. The LGBTQIA Program is part of our initiative to provide quality care to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual community. Our hospitals and medical centers are welcoming, inclusive environments, with physicians and staff dedicated in their commitment to equitably serve the needs of the LGBTQIA population.

Nationally Recognized Diversity Programs

We recognize the serious challenges facing LGBTQIA youth and adults, and stand in support of diversity and inclusion for all. Our program services includes policies intended to eliminate the disparities in care LGBTQIA patients often face when seeking medical care. Several of our hospitals have been awarded the Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality recognition by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. This requires us to meet certain criteria:

  • Upholding an explicit patient non-discrimination policy
  • Instituting an equal visitation policy for LGBT couples
  • Maintaining an employment non-discrimination policy
  • Staff training in LGBT Patient-Centered Care

Our staff regularly creates and attends community events that promote inclusion. We also aim to educate the community to counteract misleading information regarding common health concerns in the LGBTQIA community. An LGBT Health Navigator is available to assist patients with questions and concerns.
