Critical Care Ultrasound Course

The Critical Care Ultrasound course is designed for critical care physicians and advance practice providers (APPs), and includes practical applications in vascular, pleural, thoracic, and abdominal ultrasonography and echocardiography. The course focuses on hands-on applications.

During the course you will discuss the knowledge base required to perform critical care ultrasonography. You will learn how to:

  • Incorporate the interpretation skills required for taking critical care ultrasonography into frontline management of the ICU
  • Perform four basic cardiac windows in point-of-care ultrasound. Evaluate qualitative evaluation of LVEF, RV diameter, and IVC variability.
  • Evaluate pleural, abdominal, and vascular access.
  • Interpret image-based clinical cases.

Breakout Sessions

The course includes breakout sessions that provide hands-on training with live models:

  • Basic echocardiography
  • Lung and pleural ultrasound
  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Detection of deep venous thrombosis
  • Putting it all together -- demonstration of the whole-body critical care ultrasound exam

Method of Participation

In order to obtain credit for this activity, participants are required to sign in at the Registration Desk prior to the start of the course.

Attend the activity and complete the Activity Evaluation Form. A letter certifying your attendance and credit verification will be mailed to you within 4-6 weeks of the course. This live activity is pending AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with extent of their participation in the activity.

In-kind support is provided by GE by way of demonstration and workshop equipment loan.
