Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) Course

The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) course curriculum at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital introduces important principles for the initial care of critically ill/injured patients. The course is intended for physicians, physicians-in-training, nurses and other health care providers who may or may not be skilled in critical care and early stabilization. Providers will learn protocols to follow in anticipation of the arrival of an intensivist, specialist or pending patient transfer to a tertiary center.

The FCCS curriculum is presented as a two-day comprehensive series of integrated lectures and skill stations. The course provides critical care knowledge, guidance for decision-making and practice in clinical procedures by addressing fundamental management of critical care patients in the first 24 hours.

The FCCS course content was developed and prepared under the direction of the Society of Critical Care Medicine by leading critical care educators in:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Emergency medicine
  • Internal medicine
  • Nursing
  • Pediatrics and surgery
