Perioperative Pharmacy Collaborative

The RWJBarnabas Health Perioperative Pharmacy Collaborative is a diverse group of pharmacy professionals with skills, knowledge and experience in acute and ambulatory perioperative services. The collaborative is charged with sharing best practices and optimizing care across the IDN, advocating for safety and standardization in clinical and operational practices, collaborating with other disciplines to provide consultation on development of drug libraries, and developing best practices for diversion minimization and auditing.

Membership

Members: Perioperative Pharmacy Clinical Specialists, Pharmacy Directors and Assistant Directors, Operations Supervisors, Clinical Coordinators, Perioperative Pharmacy Technicians, Corporate AVP Integrated Pharmacy Services

Meetings

Meetings are held on an as needed basis to collaborate on key initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sharing of best practices
  • Safety initiatives around medication administration in the Perioperative Areas
  • Billing and charging monitoring
  • Best practices for diversion control and auditing
  • Standardization of IV syringe pump for adults and pediatrics and anesthesia library
  • System-wide MUE’s for OR specific medications
  • Development of discipline specific education library for RWJBH Pharmacy Enterprise
  • System perioperative services shortage management
  • Formulary standardization for perioperative areas
