Narcan: Preventing Opioid Overdose Saves Lives (complimentary session)

This course is an academic presentation on opioid abuse and overdose, demonstration of naloxone administration, and rescue breathing. Participants will learn how to identify factors that led to the opioid epidemic, recognize overdose symptoms and implement life-saving strategies during an overdose. All participants will receive Narcan kits.

Strengthening Families Program Leader Certification

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an internationally-recognized model parenting program. SFP is an evidence-based family skills training program found to significantly reduce problem behavior, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children, and to improve social competencies and school performance. Program materials are an additional fee. This training is not recommended for individual counselors. Completion of the training certifies participants to deliver the 14-week program.

I&RS/504 – Perfect Together

This half-day training will clarify the similarities and differences between the state code for I&RS and Federal Statute 504. It will outline how teams best determine the eligibility and criteria for collecting student information, developing action plans and providing the necessary accommodations to further enhance successful outcomes for general education students.

Social Media & Cyber Bullying: Understanding the Online World

In today’s technological age, school faculty members face a daunting task of teaching students how to free themselves of constant negative influence, undesirable people and information. Faculty will learn the following danger areas: children's issues, trends, sites and apps, teens and social media technology, and cyberbullying. Solutions presented include techniques for communicating about technology dangers and how to handle an incident at school.

Vaping in Adolescence

This presentation will provide an overview of the vaping epidemic and what we know about the effects of vaping today. We will explore the social impacts of electronic cigarettes and how to tackle nicotine addiction through prevention and recovery using vidence-based practices. Attendees will also learn about current policies that are in place to help schools manage nicotine addiction.

Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS)

This three-day training will provide participants with the understanding of the 11 functions of I&RS and includes practice cases to assess accommodations for I&RS or 504. Participants will develop strategies to measure outcomes successfully

Suicide Awareness: Risk Factors, Warning Signs, Prevention Strategies and Resources

Suicide is a complex mental health issue. Knowing what to look for, what to say and where to reach out for help can save a life. More Than Sad curriculum, developed by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will be presented. This program complies with the requirements for teacher education suicide prevention training required in New Jersey. This program is beneficial for parents and teens.

Current Drug Trends: Understanding the Impact of Substance Use Disorder and Opioids

This training will discuss the latest trends related to drugs and alcohol facing our youth today. It will provide comprehensive information related to how the rise in substance use disorder is impacting our schools and communities as well as popular substances, slang terms and methods of use among youth. Attendees will also learn the damaging effects these drugs have, methods for identification and how our culture is driving their popularity. Prevention will be the primary focus of this presentation.

Keep Your Stuff Together - Strategies for Self-Care

This training offers a new perspective on how stress works in our lives. It will highlight the mental, physical and emotional aspects to develop best coping strategies for personal and professional goal mastery. This training will additionally include an introduction and demonstration of the Tapping Solution model, an effective tool used for the reduction of stress and anxiety.
