Visiting Hours at RWJBarnabas Health

RWJBarnabas Health is committed to providing a consistent and positive experience for our patients, families and communities. To support this commitment, visiting hours have been standardized across all RWJBarnabas Health acute-care hospitals.

Standard Visiting Hours

All RWJBarnabas Health adult acute-care hospitals hold visiting hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week.

We recognize the vital role that families and loved ones play in supporting a patient’s care and well-being. When medically appropriate, exceptions to standard visiting hours such as end-of-life care, visitors of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), parents/guardians of pediatric patients, disabled patients with caregivers, and the care partner program can be granted to accommodate unique patient and caregiver needs.

Patients and families are encouraged to speak with their care team during a hospital stay to discuss individual circumstances.

Additional Visitation Guidelines

Our children’s hospitals, the Behavioral Health Center and the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center follow their own visiting hour guidelines, which are tailored to the needs of their patient populations.

Visiting hours for specific units may vary. Please be sure to review the visitation guidelines specific to your hospital before visiting.

Masking

In response to the stabilization of key respiratory viral benchmarks across RWJBarnabas Health and the region, masking is currently optional at all RWJBarnabas Health locations for staff, physicians, providers, patients, visitors, volunteers and vendors.

Please note:

  • Masking may still be required for certain patients on standard infection prevention protocols, and/or on units responsible for the care of vulnerable patients at the determination of each site.
  • Masks will continue to be available to staff, providers, patients, visitors, volunteers and vendors in our facilities if they choose to wear one.
  • Masking will be requested of all patients who present with respiratory symptoms, if tolerated, as well as all staff members and providers caring for them.
  • Should a patient request their caregiver wear a mask, staff and providers are expected to comply.

We continue to closely monitor relevant indicators and may adapt our policies as necessary to maintain the safety of our workforce and communities. Should there be an increase in contagious respiratory viruses or communicable diseases, reinstating mask requirements may be considered.

We continue to encourage all individuals and community members to prioritize physical wellbeing by helping to mitigate the spread of contagious illnesses by staying current with recommended vaccinations and boosters, considering mask usage if experiencing symptoms or after exposure to COVID-19, influenza, or other communicable diseases, and adhering to isolation guidelines when indicated.

Thank you for your continued commitment to a healthier New Jersey.
