Aquablation® Therapy

Aquablation Therapy

Aquablation® therapy is a minimally invasive robotic surgical technique to treat lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

What is Aquablation therapy?

Aquablation therapy is changing the tradeoff between symptom relief and side effects. Aquablation therapy uses a heat-free waterjet that precisely removes prostate tissue without the risk complications caused by thermal injury. Aquablation therapy is delivered by the AquaBeam® Robotic System, the world’s first commercially available autonomous tissue removal robot for the treatment of BPH.

What are the recent clinical results of Aquablation therapy?

In a large global clinical study, Aquablation therapy was proven to have less risk of side effects with similar symptom relief as the surgical gold standard transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). In a subsequent global study, Aquablation therapy was proven to be safe and effective in treating larger prostates.

Is this method of treatment suitable for me?

Aquablation therapy is approved for BPH patients suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms, regardless of prostate size. Consult your urologist for a more information.

What Complications Can Occur After Aquablation therapy?

All surgical treatments have inherent and associated side effects. After Aquablation therapy, most side effects typically resolve within two to four weeks. The most common side effects are mild and transient and may include mild pain or difficulty when urinating, discomfort in the pelvis, blood in the urine, inability to empty the bladder or a frequent and/or urgent need to urinate, and bladder or urinary tract infection. Other risks include ejaculatory dysfunction and a low risk of injury to the urethra or rectum where the devices gain access to the body for treatment. For more information about potential side effects and risks associated with Aquablation therapy, speak with your urologist or surgeon.

The advantages of the Aquablation therapy?

  • Heat-free prostate removal
  • Tailored to patient anatomy
  • Predictable and consistent results
  • Very low risk of sexual side effects
  • Proven as safe as the gold-standard transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
