Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Services

Jersey City Medical Center provides a number of behavioral health services to children and adolescents in the community. A wide variety of outpatient services are available depending on the child’s or family’s needs.

We offer individual, family and group therapies on an outpatient basis for clients with mental health/behavioral health issues ranging in age from four to eighteen years old. We have specialists in trauma, anxiety, and play therapy on staff, including bilingual clinicians and Certified Child Psychiatrists. Our specialized groups are based on need and include bereavement, social skills, self-esteem, anger management, Teen Girls, and parent groups.

Child Partial Hospitalization Programs

Utilizing an Evidence Based Curriculum, we offer the following two programs based upon a child’s needs:

  • Therapeutic Nursery Program
    This three and a half to five hour therapeutic program services pre-K children experiencing emotional and behavioral concerns that require more than weekly outpatient visits. Parenting Groups are also available, as well as a Family Specialist for in-home support.
  • Child After School Program
    This three and a half to five hour program assists five and a half to eleven year old school children with emotional and behavior difficulties that interfere with their day-to-day functioning.

Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Programs (The Challenge Programs)

  • New Start Day Program
    This is a three and a half to five hour therapeutic program for eleven to seventeen year old clients who are not able to be maintained in a school setting due to Major depression, Anxiety, Bipolar disorders, Post Traumatic Stress disorders, Psychosis, etc.
  • Adolescent After School Program
    This is the after school (3:30-7pm) version of the New Start Program for eleven to seventeen year olds with mental health and emotional concerns who are still attending school.

Pediatric Psychological Services

This service provides clients aged four to seventeen with comprehensive psychological evaluations by professional staff.
