Family Medicine Residency Program at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center
Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center) is pleased to announce the inception of a Family Medicine Program. The program has recently been approved by the American Association for Osteopathic Medicine for two residents per year beginning in July 2014. The Family Medicine Program will join nine other fully approved graduate medical education programs in offering a superb education in a friendly attractive environment.
Family Medicine residents will learn their specialty from experienced generalists as well as specialists. Although Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center is well known for sophisticated medical care encompassing patients from every age group and a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, the overall goal of training at Cooperman Barnabas is to produce Family Medicine physicians who are prepared to deliver high quality medical care based on best evidence and modern medical technology.
Through rotations in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, the Emergency Department, Surgery and Critical Care, the resident will be taught how to care for hospitalized patients with a variety of disorders and become familiar with the full potential of modern medicine in preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases and providing guidance to patients on maintaining good health.
In addition to the 35,000 hospital admissions and 85,000 emergency medicine visits, physicians at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center provide care to thousands of patients in the outpatient setting. The continuity clinic will be led by an experienced family medicine physician who has extensive experience caring for patients in a busy office setting who has been a family medicine program director and educator.

Further specific details of the program will become available over the next few weeks. The program is accepting applications through Osteopathic ERAs and will participate in the Osteopathic Match program.
