Family Medicine Residency Program

Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). No faxes or emails will be accepted, and no applications will be pre-screened.
Applicants must be US citizens or be currently authorized to work in the United States. RWJUH Somerset will not consider applicants in need of a visa.
Medical schools must be on the Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California list.
Applicants must have graduated within two years of July 2026
International Medical Graduates must meet all requirements for certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
Passing scores on USMLE Steps/COMLEX Levels, preferably on the first attempt.
Direct, supervised clinical experience in the United States within the last twelve months
Three Letters of Recommendation from US physicians with whom the applicant has had direct clinical experience, including one Letter from a Family Physician

All interviews for the 2026-2027 recruitment season will be conducted virtually, and scheduled through Thalamus
Invitations to interview will be sent on a rolling basis through Thalamus beginning in October
Applicants will have one week to respond to invitations to interview
Interviews will be conducted beginning in late October 2026, and will conclude in late January 2027
Two in-person “Meet and Greet” sessions with residents will take place in January, with an additional virtual session scheduled for early February. The Meet and Greet sessions will be listed on the Thalamus smart calendar
