Dr. Petros C. Benias is an interventional gastroenterologist whose practice centers on complex, minimally invasive endoscopic therapies for pancreaticobiliary and early gastrointestinal tumors. He has extensive experience with third‑space endoscopy—including endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early neoplasia and per‑oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia, gastroparesis, and Zenker’s diverticulum. Dr. Benias also advances care through research, mentoring, and protocol development, including same‑day discharge pathways and novel endoscopic therapies for GERD. A pioneer in advanced imaging, he helped introduce confocal endomicroscopy during EUS to characterize lymph nodes and pancreatic cysts, and his work describing gastrointestinal microanatomy has received national recognition.

    Philosophy of Care:

I treat each patient as I would a family member—clear explanations, shared decisions, and precise, least‑invasive therapy whenever possible. My goal is to pair technical excellence with compassion so procedures are safe, recovery is smooth, and outcomes truly improve quality of life.

    Clinical Interests:

Pancreaticobiliary disorders; EUS‑guided tissue acquisition; ERCP; endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early GI cancers; POEM for achalasia and Zenker’s; G‑POEM for gastroparesis; complex polypectomy; endoscopic resection/third‑space endoscopy; advanced imaging (endomicroscopy, CT‑FFR concepts applied to GI where relevant); GERD including TIF; strictures and stents; biliary obstruction and cholangitis; gallbladder disease; pancreatic cysts and neoplasms.
