Jersey City Medical Center Dedicates Serenity Garden and Stained-Glass Artwork as a Tribute to COVID-19 Relief
Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, unveiled its new serenity garden and “Healing and Hope” stained-glass artwork designed by local artist Harriet Hyams yesterday.
The serenity garden serves as a place of reflection and peace for patients, employees, and members of the community. The stained-glass artwork is dedicated by Hyams to U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez who was instrumental in obtaining funds to build the hospital. The garden was established through donations from the community, with a recognition wall dedicated to all who supported the hospital’s COVID-19 Emergency Response, front-line caregivers, and those whose memory they honor.
“We are delighted to unveil our new serenity garden and stained-glass artwork in honor of our COVID-19 response and the support of our community,” said Michael Prilutsky, President and Chief Executive Officer for Jersey City Medical Center. “This beautiful space and artwork will be a source of solitude, respite, and peace for employees, patients, visitors and our community.”
W. Nevins McCann, Partner at Connell Foley, LLP, who donated generously toward the serenity garden said “It was important my colleagues and I to deliver peace to our community by supporting the creation of a space for patients, visitors and employees and their families. The Serenity Garden was a place of reflection and comfort for me personally during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Hyams said it was an honor to participate in this project. “I hope that the artwork and the serenity garden will bring comfort to those who visit and serve as a reminder of the strength and resilience of Jersey City,” she said.
The artwork may be seen from the Grand Street side of the Medical Center, near Jersey Avenue. The Serenity Garden is located on Jersey Avenue, near the main entrance of Jersey City Medical Center.
