EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship

Program Overview

Dr. Navin Ariyaprakai

Our ACGME approved EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship began in July 2012. This unique fellowship aligns with several state organizations and EMS systems to provide EMS leadership training that is truly outstanding. As part of a coordinated effort, the EMS fellow will support EMS operations for regional ALS units. The fellow is supplied an official vehicle for operations and responses to entrapments/mass casualty incidents in the field.

Our fellowship is distinctive because it encompasses multiple aspects of prehospital care:

  • Quality Assurance & Quality Improvement
  • Assistant Medical Director to one of the country’s largest hospital based EMS systems
  • Direct Field Care of patients
  • Disaster medicine opportunities
  • Fixed wing Flight Physician opportunities
  • Helicopter opportunities
  • Rescue Task Force experience
  • Research opportunities
  • Direct Teaching to EMTs, Paramedics, Emergency Residents, and other health care providers
  • Attending physician in the Emergency room with residents, PAs, and NPs
  • Statewide disaster preparedness systems
  • Mass gathering / Event Medicine
  • Tactical EMS with local, state & federal systems
  • Inter-facility Specialty transport (ECMO, PICU, NICU)
  • And much more!

Message from Dr. Ariyaprakai – “I want each fellow to experience a little bit of everything in the pre-hospital environment, then let them do a deep dive into the aspects that will provide them with the most rewarding career possible!”
