“Through persistence, compassion, and the unwavering support of his care team, August has made tremendous strides."
August began his journey with Children’s Specialized Hospital in 2017. “One of the most transformative experiences for August has been his participation in Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Intensive Physical and Occupational Therapy Program. This unique, high-frequency treatment model allowed him to focus on specific goals in strength, coordination, and mobility,” explained August’s mom, Jordan.
“Through persistence, compassion, and the unwavering support of his care team, August has made tremendous strides. Each therapist, specialist, and staff member has played a part in helping him build his strength and confidence. The consistency of providers specialized pediatric expertise, and access to intensive therapy services have supported not only his physical development but also his overall quality of life.”
“I still remember our very first visit with the Special Needs Primary Care team at Children’s Specialized Hospital – Dr. McDonald, Heidi, and Shannon – and how immediately comfortable they made me feel. While they provided the medical care and resources August needed that day, they also recognized that this was a major transition into specialized primary care for his ongoing complex medical history. They approached it with compassion, patience, and understanding, which meant just as much as the clinical support they provided.”

The Intensive Therapy Program combines individualized occupational and physical therapy that helps children with special needs and their families by focusing on specific goals. Intensive therapy is frequent and for a limited length of time with emphasis on targeted skills and functions.
