t’s great when something that feels good also is good for us. Let’s be honest, starting an exercise program or healthier diet may be good for us, but can also feel like torture.
However, laughter is both – it feels great and is good for you! There are many studies that tout the physical and mental health benefits of a good belly laugh.
Laughter has been proven to help strengthen your immune system, relieve stress, ease pain, and more. Laughter also helps you to connect with those around you.
The 1998 movie, “Patch Adams,” is a true story of Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, who, in the 1970s, found that humor is the best medicine, and incorporated silliness into his practice to make his patients laugh to increase healing. The leading actor, Robin Williams, went to hospitals in real life and brought joy and laughter to patients, without fanfare.

Bring More Laughter to Your Day
There are lots of websites with suggestions on how to bring more laughter into your life. Here are a few of our favorites:
1. Identify what makes you laugh – keep those things close at hand
2. Spend time with people who make you laugh
3. Have kids or pets? Watch their antics and don’t worry about the mess
4. Look for the silly side – every situation, no matter how difficult, has a silly lining. You just need to look
5. Find a comedian or sitcom you love and bookmark clips or episodes
6. Know what isn’t funny – laughing at others’ expense isn’t funny. Keep it positive.
