JCMC 2014 Born at the Margaret Hague Reunion

2014 Born at the Margaret Hague Reunion - Friday, May 16, 2014.

The "Born at the Margaret Hague Reunion" took place on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Zeppelin Hall in downtown Jersey City. Several hundred people attended the event, including those born in each of the five decades the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital operated. The event was hosted and conducted by the LibertyHealth Foundation.

Each attendee received a special event T-shirt bearing the baby footprints logo which was the winning design in a contest held earlier in the year. Guests also had the opportunity to sign and leave a message on the memory boards which featured photos from each decade.

Certificates were awarded for the oldest and youngest male and female attendees and for those who had traveled the farthest to attend the event. Guests said they are looking forward to making the reunion an annual event.

More than 350,000 babies were born at The Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City from 1931 to 1979. The hospital, established during the administration of Jersey City Mayor Frank Hague and named after his mother, has a long and storied history of famous births, including Martha Stewart and Frank Sinatra, Jr. It was one of the largest and most popular maternity hospitals in the country.

Though the maternity hospital no longer exists, its legacy continues through Jersey City Medical Center where the new state of the art hospital on the waterfront continues to welcome Jersey City's newest "Margaret Hague Babies."
