Isabel R Telehealth

“When we got the call that telehealth was available, it took me not even a second to say ‘yes please!’ because I knew that in one way or another, Children’s Specialized was going to come to our rescue again and help us help Izzy,” said Sonia Rita, mother of CSH patient, Izzy Rita.

“When we got the call that telehealth was available, it took me not even a second to say ‘yes please!’ because I knew that in one way or another, Children’s Specialized was going to come to our rescue again and help us help Izzy,” said Sonia Rita, mother of CSH patient, Izzy Rita.

At just one-year-old, Isabel Rita, nicknamed “Izzy Warrior Princess,” was diagnosed with a spinal tumor. At just two-years-old, she has completed 42 rounds of chemotherapy. Through it all, Izzy hasn’t let a tumor define her; instead, she has been brave and a motivator to anyone lucky enough to meet her. At 14-months-old, Isabel began receiving therapy at Children’s Specialized Hospital.

“We trust her therapists completely,” says Sonia. “Everyone is invested in Isabel’s well-being, they are as invested as much as anyone else. The therapists are family.”

The Rita Family is one of many CSH patient families that have benefited from Telehealth services, which allow patients continue therapies via video conference safely from their homes.

Sonia explained, “[Izzy’s] therapist figured out things we had here at home that would be able to help continue her therapy, so even when we weren’t on the chat with her therapist, we could still have Izzy work on things using the tools we have right here at home.” They used pillows for some exercises, a binder for a ramp, a foam roller, yoga balls and more during the Telehealth sessions.

The Rita’s recognize the role access to Telehealth has played in Izzy’s progress. “Izzy was making really fantastic progress. I think that we really would have lost that. I like knowing that Izzy is getting the most she can get to improve.”
