Sickle Cell

Overview

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center treats more patients with sickle cell anemia than any other hospital in New Jersey. Through our adult sickle cell program at The Frederick B. Cohen Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and our pediatric sickle cell program at the Valerie Fund Treatment Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, our patients receive world-class care in a state-of-the-art facility where specialists provide ongoing disease management, acute care, as well as preventive therapies and support. With pediatric and adult programs in place, our patients receive a lifetime of care from experts in sickle cell disease, close to home.

The sickle cell program is recognized and funded by the New Jersey Department of Health as a Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. In September 2009, the Central-Northern New Jersey Sickle Cell Network with NBIMC as the principal investigator received a grant from HRSA as part of a Sickle Cell Demonstration Project to improve the care of children and adults with sickle cell disease. This project works to create a network of care for patients with sickle cell disease. Partners in the network include hematologists, primary care physicians, community based organizations located throughout Central and Northern New Jersey.
