The 25th Anniversary: Transplant Surgeon Designee Symposium

Program Information
This symposia is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for renal health care professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge of renal and pancreas transplantation as a treatment modality for their CKD patients. It is specifically designed for dialysis nurses, patient care technicians, dialysis social workers and dieticians. The symposia will also provide initial and re-certification for Transplant Surgeon Designees.

Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe key concepts in kidney allocation policy.
  • Describe the transplant team's approach to the identification, referral and evaluation of prospective transplant candidates.
  • Develop strategies to discuss difficult transplant topics with dialysis patients including living donation, non-adherence, graft failure, and obesity
  • Identify important matters in the social and dietary evaluation of renal transplant patients.
  • Describe two innovations in kidney and pancreas transplantation
  • Identify key challenges in transitioning pediatric transplant candidates to adults
