Role Will Lead Pharmacy Strategy, Operations and Clinical Excellence Across the Health System
West Orange, NJ, September 10, 2026 — RWJBarnabas Health, the largest, most comprehensive academic health system in New Jersey, has appointed David Silverman, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP as Senior Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer, effective September 14, 2026. In this role, Dr. Silverman will set the systemwide strategic direction for pharmacy services, guiding policy development and overseeing operations to advance standardization, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
Reporting to Thomas A. Biga, Executive Vice President and President of the Northern Region for RWJBarnabas Health, Dr. Silverman will also provide executive leadership for the system’s 340B program, medication management, regulatory compliance and pharmacy innovation across RWJBarnabas Health's hospitals and outpatient care locations.
"David is an accomplished pharmacy executive with an impressive track record of leading large, complex health system pharmacy operations," said Mr. Biga. "His expertise in operational strategy, medication safety and standardization will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our pharmacy enterprise, advance innovation and deliver the highest quality care to the patients and communities we serve," he continued.
A skilled pharmacy healthcare executive, Dr. Silverman joins RWJBarnabas Health from Prime Healthcare, where he served as Vice President of Pharmacy Services, overseeing pharmacy services across 55 hospitals in 15 states. Earlier in his career, he held critical care and emergency medicine pharmacy roles at St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark and Clara Maass Medical Center.
Dr. Silverman earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), graduating summa cum laude from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University, and is a board-certified Critical Care Pharmacist (BCCCP) and board-certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).
