Community Medical Center’s Emergency Department and Women’s Health Unit Named ‘Best of Ocean County’ in 2023 Asbury Park Press “Best of the Best” Awards

Emergency and Maternity Services at Community Medical Center were recognized in Asbury Park Press’ annual readers’ choice awards for a second consecutive year.

Toms River, New Jersey – November 20, 2023 - Community Medical Center (CMC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, was named Asbury Park Press’ 2023 “Best of Ocean County” in the Hospital Emergency Room and Maternity & Childbirth Center categories. Reader votes determine the winners, and the annual awards celebrate local businesses. This is the second consecutive year CMC received these awards.

“While our hospital receives many national awards and accreditations for the care and services we provide, the trust and endorsement of our local community is an invaluable honor,” said Patrick Ahearn, Chief Executive Officer, Community Medical Center. “We are proud to be named as Asbury Park Press’ “Best of Ocean County” for our Hospital Emergency Room and Maternity & Childbirth Center for 2023. On behalf of all of us at Community Medical Center, thank you to the people of Ocean County for the recognition.”

The Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Emergency Pavilion at Community Medical Center recently completed a multi-year, multi-million dollar, total renovation. The emergency department’s redesign focuses on improving the patient experience and efficiency of care, with upgrades such as private rooms in ‘care neighborhoods’ and centrally located radiology services.

The First Moments Maternity Unit at Community Medical Center combines state-of-the-art technology with home-like comfort. The all-private mother-baby unit offers 24/7 neonatologists and anesthesiologist service and a Level 2 special care unit for infants requiring special attention. In 2023, the Women’s Health Center at Community Medical Center opened at 368 Lakehurst Road in Toms River, providing services including obstetrics, gynecology, prenatal, preventative, and menopausal care. The center’s goal is to increase affordable access to women at all ages and stages of life, and they accept most insurance plans, including Medicaid, and offer flexible self-pay options.

In 2023, the Leapfrog Safety Group awarded CMC an “A” safety score for both Spring and Fall. The hospital has earned numerous awards from Healthgrades for orthopedic, critical, surgical, and women’s health care. CMC’s Transitional Care Unit was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Nursing Home for Short-Term Rehabilitation for a fifth consecutive year.

Community Medical Center recently began a multiple-year expansion, which will transform the medical center and ensure it can provide care and services for years to come. Construction of a state-of-the-art parking garage is currently underway, with a new main entrance to follow.
