Meet Russell Hoffman, a true RWJBarnabas Health success story! Russell started with us as an OR nurse and now oversees Perioperative Nurses at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey. A key to his success: a comprehensive course in perioperative nursing offered at RWJBH. "Spending structured time in the OR while still learning in a classroom setting was vital to easing my transition from nursing school to the workforce," Russell says.
“I wanted a career where I could help others while growing as an individual, and perioperative nursing is what I love – a results driven environment, fast-paced and team-focused,” he added.
To succeed in this specialty, communication skills are key. “Perioperative nurses work side by side,” says Russell. “No one can know everything so we all share knowledge and skills when needed. We are a cohesive team that truly supports each other.”
