Community Medical Center Earns National Recognition for Women’s Care Excellence in Healthgrades OB/GYN Awards

Community Medical Center one of only 17 hospitals nationwide to receive all three Women’s Care Excellence Awards

Toms River, NJ, August 11, 2022 — Community Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has earned all three Women’s Care Excellence Awards from Healthgrades, ranking as one of only 17 hospitals nationwide to receive all three honors. Healthgrades’ Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™, Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™, Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™ and 5-Star Recipient Awards recognize the hospital’s superior care for women during labor and delivery and gynecologic procedures. Community Medical Center placed among the top 5% of hospitals evaluated for labor and delivery and gynecologic surgery, and among the top 10% evaluated for obstetrics and gynecology.

Analyzing patient data from 16 individual states from 2018-2020, the Healthgrades 2022 Women’s Care Awards recognize the top 10% of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence in labor and delivery, obstetrics and gynecology, and gynecologic surgery. This is the second year in a row that Community Medical Center has earned the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™, the fifth year in a row they earned the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™, and the sixth year they earned the Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades.

The hospital is also a 5-Star Recipient for Vaginal Delivery for a seventh year in a row; data from Healthgrades demonstrates that on average patients in 5-Star Recipient hospitals have a 45.1% lower risk of experiencing complication in the hospital than if the patient were treated at 1-Star hospital. For a seventh year in a row, Community Medical Center is a 5-Star Recipient for C-Section Delivery. Healthgrades’ data shows that in hospitals with 5-stars, on average patients have 65.9% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals with 1-star. The hospital is also a 5-Star Recipient for Hysterectomy for the sixth year in a row, and on average, patients having a hysterectomy in hospitals with 5-stars have a 65.1% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals with 1-star.

Annually, Community Medical Center delivers over 2,000 babies, and maternity services include board-certified obstetricians, neonatologists and anesthesiologists, certified midwives, a Level 2 Special Care Nursery, skilled nursing staff, and 24/7 anesthesiology and neonatologists. Labor-delivery-recovery rooms include home-like features such as all-private rooms with Jacuzzis.

The hospital also provides high quality surgical services, including robotic-assisted surgery, which can be used for gynecological procedures. Community Medical Center features two state-of-the-art da Vinci robotic surgical systems and is accredited as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation.

RWJBarnabas Health received 26 awards from Healthgrades, the highest number of awards in the state for excellence in comprehensive women’s care. Clara Maass Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center each received two distinctions—the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award™. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Trinitas Regional Medical Center both received the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™.
