John F. Bonamo, M.D., MS, FACOG, FACPE, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical and Quality Officer, RWJBarnabas Health, explains why you cannot get COVID-19 from the mRNA vaccines.
TRANSCRIPT:
People often ask if you can get COVID from the vaccine. You cannot get COVID from the vaccine because the COVID-19 vaccine is a protein against COVID and it is not actually the COVID molecule.
In the old vaccines, we actually used the germ to inoculate people, a less virulent version of the germ.
Those people could actually get the disease, but you can’t get the disease from the COVID-19 vaccine.
You could get symptoms that usually last less than 24-48 hours, but you do not have the disease by any means.
It’s just the body’s reaction to the development of the protein.
