Aug 12, 2020 Somerset County Bar Association Hosts Blood Drive on Aug. 10

The Somerset County Bar Association (SCBA) is hosting a blood drive Thursday, August 10 from noon to 5:30 p.m. at Alfie’s Ristorante in Warren. Registrations are required and can be made online at www.RWJUHDonorClub.org or by calling 908-685-2926.

The group’s decision to host a blood drive couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Summer blood shortages are common, but the global pandemic has had a major impact on our local blood supply,” said RWJ University Hospital Somerset Blood Services recruiter Nicole Greco. “Community support means more than ever and will allow us to continue to have blood available the moment it’s needed.”

“The Somerset County Bar Association is committed to helping the communities we serve,” said SCBA president Heidi Ann Lepp, Esq. “Responding to the blood shortage is a way for us to safe lives by helping to rebuild and rally our neighbors as we move forward in these unprecedented times.”

Each unit of blood has the potential to save two lives. New and returning blood donors are welcome and all donors will receive a free T-shirt.

“Donors will be surprised to know that many of the eligibility requirements have changed to allow more people to be able to donate in response to the pandemic crisis,” said Greco. “Now is the time to come back if you haven’t donated in a while, and there hasn’t been a better time to start than now if you’ve never donated before.”

Donors must be at least 18 years old (16 with parental consent) and weight at least 110 lbs. (120 lbs. if under 18) and feel well. Donors must provide valid photo ID and are strongly encouraged to eat and drink well prior to arrival.
